Blues boss Paul Jewell says he’s well aware that fans are probably becoming fed up of hearing that he’s targeting new central defenders. The Town manager has spent the summer trying to add to his defensive ranks, but so far unsuccessfully with plenty of other clubs chasing the same targets.

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that US U20 international keeper Cody Cropper will be on the bench for the first time when the Blues take on Northampton in the first round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm). Arran Lee-Barrett is the only available senior keeper available and will start, with first choice David Stockdale on England duty and in any case ineligible for the Carling Cup and with Márton Fülöp having joined West Brom.

Town were good for their 2-0 lead at the break but their performance again drifted in a second half in which Paul Coutts pulled one back for the visitors.

Town fell to their second disastrous East Anglian derby defeat of the season as Norwich left Portman Road having beaten the Blues by a convincing 5-1 scoreline. An Arran Lee-Barrett error led to Andrew Surman’s opener, then a Gareth McAuley own goal increased the Canaries’ lead. Simeon Jackson added Norwich’s third, Jimmy Bullard pulled one back but Russell Martin and Daniel Pacheco added the fourth and fifth late on.

Delaney put Town in front with a header in a very poor first half with Norris adding the second after the break. Grant Leadbitter missed a penalty before Wickham brilliantly ran from his own half to seal the win, prior to Robert Kozluk and Lee Williamson receiving red cards within a minute during the closing stages.
